“We need to make sure that the people who tell the world’s stories represent the people of the world,” said Cristi Hegranes, CEO and Publisher of Global Press, kicking off GLG’s 2021 Women’s History Month Speaker Series.

Global Press, a 2019 GLG Social Impact Fellow Organization, works to build a more just and informed world by training and employing female reporters to produce ethical and accurate journalism in the world’s least-covered regions.

Cristi joined GLG Chief Communications Officer Richard Socarides, Head of Social Impact Jen Field, and more than 100 GLGers for a discussion sponsored by GLG Social Impact and our Women+ Diversity Network. The conversation explored the challenges faced by local journalists around the world, the importance of accurate reporting, the need for diversity in international journalism, and more. Austin GLGer Gabrielle Castagno, who leads the GLG team serving Global Press, also joined to discuss the project work that GLG has done in support of the nonprofit.

We’re always excited to welcome our Social Impact Fellows and learn more about their world-changing work – and we look forward to continuing to commemorate Women’s History Month in the weeks ahead.
