New York, New York; October 24, 2016 — GLG (Gerson Lehrman Group, Inc.) today announced its third class of Social Impact Fellows (GLGSocialImpact.com), giving six rising social innovators and their organizations access to the world’s leading platform for expertise, professional learning, and mentorship. The 2016 Fellows and their organizations tackle a range of social challenges around the world – from water and sanitation to veteran support and rehabilitation in the U.S. to vocational education in Africa.

“In the three years since we launched the Social Impact Fellowship, we’ve come to understand the unique learning needs of social innovators and how we can meet them,” said GLG CEO Alexander Saint-Amand. “As we strengthen our partnership with our Fellows, they continue to help us achieve GLG’s mission to transform the way top professionals share expertise and learn.”

Beginning today with a two-day convening in New York City, the 2016 class joins GLG’s community of leading innovators, investors, business leaders, entrepreneurs, corporations, and professional services firms, who learn every day from GLG’s membership of top academics and policy specialists, C-suite executives, scientists, former public sector officials, and other professional leaders. Fellows and their teams will have unlimited access to GLG’s 500,000 Network Members, at no cost, as they work to solve their toughest organizational challenges and create meaningful social impact.

The 2016 GLG Fellows are:

  • Barbara Bush – Co-Founder & CEO, Global Health Corps; New York, New York (global health);
  • Minhaj Chowdhury – Co-Founder & CEO, Drinkwell; West Bengal, India (water & sanitation);
  • Krista Donaldson – CEO, D-Rev; San Francisco, California (healthcare technologies);
  • Eric Liu – Co-Founder & U.S. Executive Director, Bayes Impact; San Francisco California (data solutions for social good);
  • Misan Rewane – Co-Founder & CEO, Wave Academies; Lagos, Nigeria (youth unemployment)
  • Jake Wood – Co-Founder & CEO, Team Rubicon; Los Angeles, California (veterans empowerment & disaster relief).

Fellow bios and organization overviews are available at GLGSocialImpact.com/fellows.

Almost 500 leading early-stage and growing nonprofits and social enterprise organizations applied for this year’s Fellowships. The competitive selection process was based on an analysis of the missions and models of the applicant organizations, and how well GLG’s resources could help them improve efficacy and achieve impact at key moments in their growth.

“We are honored to welcome the 2016 Fellows and we’re incredibly excited about this new class,” said GLG Social Impact Director Jen Field. “This year, we are working with organizations focused on new geographic regions and issues, like water and sanitation in India and Bangladesh, and using big data solutions to address global social problems. We are also extending the Fellowship to two years for all new and existing Fellows to make our partnerships even more impactful and effective.”

GLG launched its Social Impact Fellowship in 2014 to extend the benefits of GLG’s learning model to social sector leaders who could best take advantage of it. In its first two years, GLG members worked with Fellows taking on critical social challenges, including empowerment of women and girls in Africa, economic mobility for low-income families across the U.S., and sustainable home design.
